March 30, 2009

Meeting called to order by President Russo at 12:13. A quorum was represented by members Jerry Landers, John Miller, Ray and Roseanna Thompson, Susie Azevedo, Cheryl McCoy and Brian Seacrist.

Urgent matter regarding fields at Bigley Avenue and Kanawha City. Jerry met with City of Charleston Friday, March 20 and they have agreed to properly grade these fields at their expense. Additionally, on the little field at Bigley Avenue, in the fall, French drains will be installed along the first and third baselines, again at the expense of the City. The City will grade the fields, new mix will be applied, supplied by CMLL, and the City will finish the fields. Jerry Landers has volunteered to oversee process.

It was determined that 100 tons of mix was needed to properly replace the infields at both fields. This would cover at a depth of approximately 2 inches.

Bids were obtained at the recommendation of City Engineer for mix. David Russo contacted Natural Sand located in Slippery Rock, PA. and received a price of 64.00/ton delivered. They referred the fields at Appalachian Power Park and Trianna Field in Charleston as examples of their product.

Another bid was received by Kurtz Brothers, Inc located in Dublin Ohio. Their price delivered, which specified a 60/40 sand/clay mix, was 42.05/ton. Their local reference is the new softball field at UC.

A motion was made by Susie and seconded by John that further action be taken by the Board. Motion passed unanimously.

Jerry Landers, David Russo and Roseanna Thompson will view all three fields this afternoon and make recommendation to Board as to which bid to pursue. Both can deliver this coming week with work to be completed by Thursday. Considerations are not only price but quality of product as utmost concern is safety of our Little League players.

Meeting adjourned 12:33.
